Hatches:
Botany Bay's original foredeck hatch was built up out of 3/8" acrylic with a teak frame. I replaced this hatch in 1994 with a Bomar cast aluminum hatch with a Lexan lens. This hatch has an inside size of 24.5 inches square and is powder coated white.

I also installed three new Bomar cast aluminum 7x11" hatches in the coach roof and a single 11x11" cast aluminum hatch in the head.

The original paint coatings failed badly in the tropics and Bomar has no process for having them either repainted or powder coated as their current hatches are coated. However, I found that Marine Windshield in Costa Mesa will take the old hatches, clean them up, powder coat the aluminum, and install new Lexan at a reasonable price.

New hatch in head

Note that this hatch faces aft so it can be left open while underway. A small amount of seawater may get into the head through this hatch but it should not cause any difficulties..
