SeaTek's Complete Refurbishment of Botany Bay's Mast is Spectacular!
Allan Lindsey and his team at SeaTek have been a joy to work with providing top of the line service on the single largest project to date refitting Botany Bay. They came in on time, on budget, and the result exceeded all of my expectations!

From how professionally they were able to remove the spar from the boat without  damage to the spar or boat.  Then taking the spar down to bare metal, removed every screw and bolt, electropolishing all of the hardware prior to reassembly after repainting the spar, every step of the way was beautifully executed. Every effort was made to galvanically isolate stainless components from the aluminum mast using mylar under metal fittings and "Teff Gel on every screw".

The final installation process and the quality of the finished product left me so happy I was speachless and grasping for the right words. (Those who know me will tell you that it is very rare that I am at a loss for words!)

All of the way through the project Allan worked with me through selecting the right hardware for my application: we decided on StaLok terminals, AquaSignal LED lights, a unique AIS/VHF antenna along with a cell phone antenna at the masthead. He and his team fabricated custom mounts for these antennas and developed a creative way to mount the large TV antenna just below the radar mount.

Allan's final report was complete, accurate, and detailed including pin to pin lenghts for all of the rigging, the actual cut wire lenghts for each piece of rigging wire (for future reference if I need to replace a length in a remote location) and even the certificates of compliance for the specific rolls of 316 rigging wire used for the project. Especially important to me was having all of the wire for each size from a single roll so that I can assume that the hidden wire inside the furling units is aging similarly to the wire which I can see.

Allan also provided a detailed letter for my insurance company providing evidence that the rigging wire has been replaced and then detailing the additional refurbishment of the rigging which will be invaluable for the insurance company granting an extended cruising range coverage.

I can't imagine a better team to rebuild the spar and bring it to better than new condition!

If anyone would like to talk directely with me about my experience with  Allan and his team at SeaTek please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail or call me using the contact information on this website

SeaTek pulling mast out

SeaTek pulling Botany Bay's mast coming out with the crane at "The Boatyard" in Long Beach!

SeaTek restepping the mast with great care

Easy does it, Allan, Mike, and Chris from SeaTek took great care dropping the mast back into Botany Bay. Not a scratch on the new mast, the teak bulkhead right behind the mast was carefully protected, no deck scratches. With all of the large equipment moving around their care working on the boat was more than anyone could ask for.

The mast is stepped and the stays attached

With the shrouds all attached and the two roller furlers pinned everything is stable. Allan and his team were able to preserve all of the original hood headstay furlers, the inmast furling gear, radar and other large components. I was extremely impressed with the efficiency with which they were able to get the mast back into Botany Bay and have the mast locked down to minimize the yard costs associated with stepping the mast.

With the Boom, vang, and pole back aboard most of the hard work is done

With the mast stepped, the boom attached, vang reinstalled, the pole aboard and the initial tuning of the rig complete Botany Bay is nearly ready to head back to Redondo Beach after the guys at SeaTek pour the "Spar Tight" around the mast and let it cure.
