Replace Leaking Engine Return Fuel Line
On a trip to Catalina I noticed the oil absorbant pad under the transmission had a significant spot of red oil and spent most of the trip carefully checking the oil level assuming that was the source of the red liquid. Upon detailed inspection it turned out that the source of the red fluid was the diesel return line where it transitioned from a wire braid covered hose to the copper line heading to the fuel tank.

I was not able to easily source the right fittings to make a replacement hose from scratch, however, the hose shop (name of shop here) in San Pedro was able to take the original hose apart and use new compression fittings to make a leak free hose. I suspect that I will have to do the same thing with the feed line this fall.

The new hose is not wire covered, rather it is the thicker walled certified diesel fuel line (Type ??)

This is the end which hooks to the engine

This is the end which connects to an English style copper compression fitting. I may consider replacing all of the copper hard line (actually soft copper tubing) with modern diesel fuel hose as part of the fuel system upgrade eventually.

The fuel feed line is the same style of braid over hose and should probably be replaced in the not too distant future.
