This system has defined Botany Bay's reefing pattern. As she becomes overpowered the traveler is let down, when the traveler hits the end stop it is time to reef! I follow this rule without exception. The traveler has a small amount of bow in it which tightens up the mainsheet as the car is let down. With a traveler this long I have not found the need for a boom vang, by the time I am significantly off the traveler it is time for the preventer anyway!
